Scotch Whisky
Cocktails with Scotch
Scotch mixed drinks — Penicillin, Rusty Nail, and Scotch Sour — not bourbon Old Fashioneds or rye Manhattans.
Scotch is its own pantry bottle. A blended Scotch covers the Sour and Rusty Nail; Penicillin also wants a peated float, which is a second key.
Scotch Whisky cocktail FAQ
Can I use bourbon in a Penicillin or Rusty Nail?
You can mix them, but they stop being Scotch drinks. Rusty Nail is Scotch and Drambuie; Penicillin is Scotch, lemon, honey-ginger, and a peated float.
Do I need a fancy single malt?
A solid blended Scotch is enough to mix. Save a smoky Islay dram for the Penicillin float if you enjoy peat.
