Cocktails with absinthe rarely want a full pour. A small bottle lasts because the Sazerac and Corpse Reviver No. 2 rinse the glass and dump the excess. Monkey Gland is gin, orange juice, grenadine, and a few dashes; the Zombie is the tiki exception with a measured splash among several rums. Pastis or Herbsaint can stand in for a Sazerac rinse; they are not the same as a sipping pour of verte.

Sazerac (rye, sugar, Peychaud’s, absinthe rinse), Corpse Reviver No. 2 (gin, Lillet, Cointreau, lemon, absinthe rinse), Monkey Gland (gin, orange, grenadine, dashes), and Zombie (a tiki splash among the rums).
What to mix with absinthe if I only have a rinse bottle?
A Sazerac or Corpse Reviver No. 2 uses almost no absinthe by volume. You do need rye and Peychaud’s for the Sazerac, or gin, Lillet Blanc, Cointreau, and lemon for the Reviver. Easy absinthe cocktails are still spirit-forward, not highballs.
