History
Douglas Ankrah created the Porn Star Martini in 2002 at Townhouse in Knightsbridge. The idea came from Cape Town's Mavericks Revue Bar; he first called it the Maverick Martini, then renamed it because it looked like something a porn star would drink. Vanilla vodka, passion fruit liqueur and puree, and lime, with Prosecco on the side, became a UK bar staple. You will also see it written Pornstar Martini (one word) — same passion-fruit vodka drink with the Prosecco sidecar. The sidecar is the ritual that separates this from a passion-fruit vodka sour: pour the sparkling wine first so it is waiting when you strain. Plain vodka plus a drop of vanilla extract works if vanilla vodka is not in the pantry. Passion fruit puree from the freezer beats nectar for tartness.
