History

The Between the Sheets is most often credited to Harry MacElhone at Harry’s New York Bar in Paris in the early 1930s. A boozy twist on the Sidecar, it replaces part of the cognac with white rum while keeping the orange liqueur and lemon juice. Earlier claims exist (including a possible London version around 1921), but the Paris attribution stuck. Equal parts spirit and citrus-sweet balance, with a name that matches its potent, seductive character—still one of the great interwar sour variations.
